Roadmap on Promotion of Managed Recycling for Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste outside Fukushima Prefecture

The 3rd meeting of “the Council for Promotion of Managed Recycling, etc. for Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste outside Fukushima Prefecture” was held and the “Roadmap on Promotion of Managed Recycling for Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste outside Fukushima Prefecture” was decided on August 26, 2025.

Basic Policy on the Promotion of Managed Recycling for the Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste Outside Fukushima Prefecture

The 2nd meeting of “the Council for Promotion of Managed Recycling, etc. for Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste outside Fukushima Prefecture” was held and the “Basic Policy on the Promotion of Managed Recycling for the Realization of Final Disposal of Removed Soil and Waste Outside Fukushima Prefecture” was decided on May 27, 2025.

Enforcement Regulations for the Act as standards for managed recycling

The “Enforcement Regulations for the Act on Special Measures concerning the handling of Environment Pollution by Radioactive Materials Discharged by the Nuclear Power Station Accident Associated with the Tohoku District-Off the Pacific Earthquake That Occurred on March 11, 2011” was amended as standards for managed recycling were announced on March 28, 2025.

The Basic Principles under the Act provide a decontamination framework and were approved in the Cabinet meeting on November 11, 2011.

Act on Special Measures concerning the handling of Environment Pollution by Radioactive Materials Discharged by the Nuclear Power Station Accident Associated with the Tohoku District-Off the Pacific Earthquake That Occurred on March 11, 2011

This Act was established to address the urgent issue of reducing promptly the impact of environmental contamination on human health and the living environment caused by radioactive materials, which had been released by the nuclear power plant accident associated with the Great East Japan Earthquake. It defines that the basic principles regarding the handling of the environment pollution caused by radioactive materials are determined in a cabinet meeting, and that the monitoring and measurement are carried out to determine the status of the environmental contamination by accident-derived radioactive materials. It also sets the matters relating to the disposal of wastes and the matters on measures for decontamination of soil, etc. contaminated by radioactive materials.
